One of the things that is surprising about the Mendocino Coast is the amount of musical talent in the area. I’d have to suppose that our Per-Capita Musicality Quotient (PCMQ) is significantly higher than average. Gloriana Musical Theatre is one of two opera companies on the Coast, and they focus on light opera and musical theatre. They also do Christmas caroling to raise money for scholarships, something in which I join them. This show promises to be excellent, based on having sung with the mail lead, Paul Friesen. He has one of those strong, smooth bass voices that is as smooth as silk, and he is amazingly expressive through his voice. I’ve learned a lot by singing next to him in the choir, and it’s always a pleasure just hear him singing. Cole Porter is exactly the kind of music to bring out his best qualities, too.
The show runs through August 24th through October 7th, and the performances are on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2. Check it out!
