Mendocino Theatre Company presents “Eurydice”
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 by nancy

How far would you go for true love?

Guest actors Lucas Burns as Orpheus and Veronica Krestow as EurydiceGuest actors Lucas Burns as Orpheus and Veronica Krestow as EurydiceThe Mendocino Theatre Company’s production of playwright Sarah Ruhl’s modern interpretation of the classic Orpheus myth, “Eurydice”, poses this question and answers it in one of the most exciting evenings of theatrical magic you will ever hope to experience.

In the classic Greek myth, Eurydice has gone to the underworld and is followed there by her bridegroom, Orpheus, who seeks to bring her back to the real world. Playwright Sarah Ruhl re-imagines the story through the eyes of its heroine as she descends into the underworld where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With dreamlike characters, ingenious plot twists and breathtaking effects, “Eurydice” is a refreshingly modern look at a timeless love story that is not to be missed.

“Eurydice” has been directed by MTC veteran Steve Siler and features the talents of  Hugh Dignon, Allan Droyan, Alena Guest, newcomers Matthew Ramsey and Christopher Yeiser, and guest actors Lucas Burns as Orpheus and Veronica Krestow as Eurydice.

“Eurydice” opened September 17 in the Helen Schoeni Theatre and plays through October 25. Student tickets are half-price for any performance. Phone the Box Office at 707-937-4477 for reservations and information.

Final Weekend for “The Circle”
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 by nancy

This weekend – September 3 through 6 – the Mendocino Theatre Company is presenting the final performances of Somerset Maugham’s biting social satire, “The Circle”.

Directed by Ayn Ruymen, “The Circle” is the story of Lady Kitty, who left her stifling marriage to begin life anew with her true love, and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth, who finds herself in similar circumstances with a young adventurer thirty years later. The ensuing dilemma unfolds with wit, satire, laughter and compelling dialogue as only a storyteller like Somerset Maugham could provide.

“The Circle” features the considerable talents of Rachel Archuletta, Raven Deerwater, Sofia Impellizzeri, Dan Kozloff, Toni Orans, Ruby Bell Sherpa, Steven P. Worthen and Bing York. The set has been designed by Nicole Allan and Larry Lawlor, with costumes by Gail Daly.

“The Circle” plays Thursday through Saturday, September 3 – 5, at 8 pm and Sunday, September 6 at 2 pm. Box office at 937-4477
