In the November/December issue of the National Geographic Traveler magazine, listed  in group #11 among the World’s Great Places, is “California northern coast (Marin County to Eureka)”. The article states: “Legendary for its wineries and scenic coastline, this region also entices with the calm and quiet of small towns, farms and ranches.  Despite suburban sprawl in Sonoma and Marin, development appears to be within reason and consistent with the environment.”

Conducted by the National Geographic Society’s Center for Sustainable Destinations, the Survey evaluated 133 world wide destinations considering  the stewardship provided by local involvement, plus  pollution, cultural quality, authenticity, and tourism management of each area. A panel of 437 well traveled experts participated.
