Since we hadn’t seen any whales yet, we took advantage of the break in the rain to go walking on the Mendocino Headlands. As you can see from the picture, the conditions — however beautiful — were not very conducive to seeing whales. We actually watched 3 or 4 pods heading south to Baja, and my camera was able to catch a few spouts (and even a tail!) in the distance. The whales will continue steaming down to Baja to have their babies, and then they’ll head back to Alaska. We’ll be seeing the whales into April.
