The Pavilion Open This Weekend
Monday, July 25th, 2011 by nancy

Special preview nights on 7/28 & 7/29 for ONLY $10

The Mendocino Theatre Company in association with Harvest Market/Harvest at Mendosa’s proudly present “The Pavilion” by Craig Wright, Directed by Kennedy White

“This is the way the universe begins.” With those words, the Narrator of The Pavilion, like the Stage Manager in Our Town, takes the audience on a ride through the past, the present, and the future, introducing us to Peter and Kari, former high school sweethearts on the night of a high school reunion. Their past is broken. Can it be mended? Can time ever be coaxed into running backwards? The Pavilion is a sweepingly romantic modern classic. The Pavilion staring Van Phillips, Jodi Britton and Dan Kozloff, plays Thurs – Sat @ 8:00 pm with 2:00 matinees on Sunday 7/31, 8/28, and 9/4 at the Helen Schoeni Theatre on the grounds of the Mendocino Art Center. This year there will also be astrology and numerology readings, as well as face painting.

Benefit Concert a Treat

Benefit concert for Pacific Textile Arts with Father/Daughter duo Mike and Leah Wollenberg, Jazz & Celtic music on guitar and violin on July 18

The Mendocino Stories and Music Series is taking advantage of a quiet night at the Music Festival tent to invite Father/Daughter duo Mike and Leah Wollenberg to play jazz and celtic music with guitar and violin. They played for us earlier this year and were a big hit. Here’s another opportunity to enjoy their musical comraderie. This performance will begin at 7:30PM at the Mendocino Hotel and is a benefit for Pacific Textile Arts.

Pacific Textile Arts is an organization devoted to the support of all the textile arts. They have an exhibition room, at artist studios, teach young people and children to weave, knit and spin and to understand the role these activities have played since the beginning of human history. A very large library of textile related books, the second largest in the state, is maintained and may be found at this website: pacifictextilearts.org

A mainstay in the Bay Area music scene since the early eighties, guitarist Mike Wollenberg has performed and recorded with many Bay area luminaries. He is best known for his solo guitar playing, in which he plays several musical parts simultaneously, giving the impression of there being more than just one instrument. This ability also makes him the perfect compliment to a soloist in a duo format.

Leah and Mike have been playing music together for thirteen years, which is amazing considering Leah just turned nineteen. They play with an empathy and familiarity unique to family musical teams, continuing the conversation in music that has been ongoing since before Leah was born.

All Ages Welcome. Bistro menu and drinks are available as soon as the doors open at 6:30PM. Suggested donations $10 – $20. For more info call Pattie at 937-1732

Eclectica sings a wide range of a cappella songs (hence the name) — sacred and secular, old and new, fast and slow. Members are Beth Seaward (soprano), Bessy Krauss (alto), Dennis Freeze (tenor), and Paul Friesen (bass). This is the first time that Eclectica will be performing at the Mendocino Music Festival. www.eclectica.us
