52nd Father’s Day Chicken BBQ – Best in the West

Father’s Day BBQ – Comptche – noon – 4 pm, Sunday, June 18

This is a local favorite. You drive 15 miles east of Mendocino on the Ukiah-Comptche Road and land right in the middle of town where you’ll find the Comptche Fire Department Fundraiser in fullswing. Great BBQ, and a ton of homemade pies. A craft fair and music. Even if the coast is foggy, you can depend on it to be warm here. This little forest oasis couldn’t be prettier.

Local’s tip: if you’re a cyclist, the Mendocino Coast Cyclists take an annual ride over single tracks trails of the Jackson State Forest to the BBQ. When you get there, you’ve burned off 10,000 calories (a wild guess) and all that BBQ and pie will be calorie free. Now, riding back might be a little more effort. A lot of cyclists arrange car trips back to the coast. For information, check out the MendoCC website for contact information.

The firefighters make one request: no pets. “Please leave them at home.” Makes for a better people experience, they have decided.
