You’ll find postcard views of Mendocino, wild flowers, and crashing surf. This is an excellent spot for whale-watching. This trail drops in elevation at the beginning, and then levels out on headlands near the ocean. It is very exposed to the elements (especially windy), but it is an excellent location from which to spy whales.
Along this walk, which is a 45-minute round trip at a medium pace, you’ll find two benches carved from tree trunks. They are perfect spots for watching the surf, picnicking and relaxing.
Access: go south from Mendocino for 1½ miles, and park on right (west) side of the highway, directly across from Gordon Lane at M48.94.
