Ten-Mile River Haul Road, MacKerricher State Park

This windswept location 8 miles north of Fort Bragg features 130-foot sand dunes at the mouth of the Ten Mile River. Follow the trail north a short distance north to the haul road, which curves left around the point and then south along the ocean for 7 miles. The dunes at the north end of MacKerricher can reach 130 feet in height, and they are home to a number of protected species. You can follow the haul road south 4½ miles to the central part of MacKerricher State Park, and from there another 2½ miles to the Pudding Creek Railroad Trestle.

Access: go 8 miles north of Ft Bragg on Highway One. Park on the south side of bridge over Ten-Mile River, at the foot of the big sand dunes.
